Canada (French: [Canadian]) is a country located in the northern part of North America. Its provinces extend from the Atlantic to the Pacific and northward into the Arctic Ocean, covering 9.98 million square kilometers (3.85 million square miles), making it the world’s second-largest country. Its capital is Ottawa, and its three largest metropolitan areas are Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver.

Canada’s population is equivalent to 0.48% of the total world population. Canada ranks at number 38 in the list of countries (by country and dependencies) by population. Capital: Ottawa is the capital city of Canada. It stands on the south bank of the Ottawa River in the eastern portion of portions of southern Ontario. Ottawa had a city population of 934,243 and a metropolitan population of 1,323,783, making it the fourth-largest city in Canada and the fifth-largest CMA in the world.

Languages: A multitude of languages are used in Canada. According to the 2011 census, English and French are the mother tongues of 56.9% and 21.3% of Canadians, respectively.
